Today was my first Thanksgiving away from home. Yet, I did not spend it alone.

My friend, Olivia, who is from Atlanta, Georgia (HOW COOL IS THAT?), and I went to a restaurant before French class today to celebrate Thanksgiving. I got the turkey with chestnuts, salad, mac’n’cheese, and a coke. It was very good, and also reminded me of home.

The homework that was due today was to describe our country. An image, an odor, a sound/music, a noise, a taste, and an object. I chose to just describe Alabama since the United States is so big.

Une image: Alabama is full of trees, magnificent skies, and roads. There are a lot of farms too (la ferme).

Une odeur: Barbecue (barbaque)

Un son/une musique: We listen to Country music: “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Cotton-Eyed-Joe”…

Un bruit: (I didn’t know about this one…) Cars, animals, and the occasional ice cream truck.

Un goût: Today’s Thanksgiving, so turkey (la dinde) and ham (le jambon), dressing and stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, pecan pie, etc., etc., etc.

Un objet: The Alabama Flag, the US Flag

I slowly drove home, stopping to look at the fall leaves.

Small Lake in Rumilly.

My host parents were both out of town because of work today, but Hugo and I had a great meal of gnocchi, ham, and some carrots.

After that, I called home to talk to my parents and my aunt and uncle in Arizona.

They taunted me with food…

(But that’s okay because chocolate and peanut butter aren’t my favorite things…)

My lovely parentals.

Overall, my first Thanksgiving away from home was a pretty good one!

I hope that your Thanksgiving was a good one too.

What are your Thanksgiving traditions?
